The majority of buildings found in the UK are constructed from materials that are readily available in the local area, and so it’s no surprise that worker’s cottages were made from slate in places like Wales where the stone was found in abundance. Cottages like these could be found in and around slate quarries to provide miners with accommodation or equally could serve as the home of a railway worker.
