Information

Introduced by the LMS in the late 1930s, these 20-ton brake vans continued to be built into the BR period, despite being based on an earlier Midland Railway design. Adopted as a standard LMS design, but having a longer wheelbase, side duckets and deeper verandas, 670 were built to Diagram D1909 from 1938, with a further 522 turned out from Derby to Lot D2036 from 1941.
